Background:
The Beatrix Potter prints shown on this page are from an early edition of
her Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck published in 1911 (the first
edition appeared in 1908).
The inspiration for the story was the farm owned
by Beatrix Potter's agent, John Cannon. The story is dedicated to
Cannon's two children Ralph and Betsy.
The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck
is part farmyard story and part "Little Red Riding Hood". The heroes of
the story are the collie Kep and two foxhound friends who help Jemima Puddle-Duck
get back to the farm after having been lured into the "gentleman" fox's home.
