Background:

These colorful Bird prints are from a folio published in 1964 which selected plates from John James Audubon's Birds of North America originally published from 1827 to 1839.  This work is regarded as one of the finest ornithological series ever completed.

Audubon (1785-1851) was French-American naturalist and painter who is known for his studies to document all types of American birds.  The plates included in  Birds of North America are based on his paintings and notable for placing the birds in their natural setting.
