These beautiful Bird prints are by Edouard Traviès (1809-1865), one of the best known
French natural history artists of the first half of the 1800s. Working primarily in
watercolors, Traviès was among the earliest artists to place his subjects in a natural
setting. While known primarily as a Bird artists, Traviès also illustrated mammals.
The prints featured here are from two French natural history works of the 1800s - Dictionary
of Natural History (D'Orbigny) and Gallery of Natural History.
