Background:
These beautiful Botanical prints are from Vicks Monthly Magazine published in the
late 1880s by the American horticulturist James Vick of Rochester, New York
.
The articles in Vick's Magazine
appealed to both the amateur gardener and "master" Victorian gardener.
Articles described species of plants found in the garden - both domestic and overseas,
poetry, garden layouts, flower arranging and letters from readers who submitted specimens
of plants, questions on gardening techniques and sharing knowledge on gardening
accessories they made, such as seed germinating trays. There was even an educational
column for young gardener's titled "Our Young People".
