Background:
These prints are from the First Edition of Cats at School, a hard to find folio
of Cats illustrated in a school setting drawn Louis Wain (1860-1839).
Wain was a very talented English artist whose
primary focus was Cat art. These prints were done when Wain was in his early 50s
during his "Normal Period".
At age 57, Wain was diagnosed with schizophrenia. His Cat illustrations after this
time became more psychotic, particularly in the representation of the Cat eyes and
fragmentation in the Cat's bodies. This was known as his "Psychotic
Period". |
