Background:
These exquisite prints are based on illustrations by Edmund Dulac (1882-1953).
Dulac, one of the best known European artists of children's fairy tales, was born in
Toulouse, France and left for London in 1904.
An interesting facet of these prints is they
came from a Picture Book of fairy tales and children's songs that Dulac illustrated around
1916. The proceeds from their sale went exclusively to benefit the London chapter of
the French Red Cross (Croix Rouge Française) during World War I.
