Background:
These colorful prints portray the costumes, jewelry and other accessories of the people
native to pre-Colombian and post-Conquest South America. The illustrations include
appropriate background views for the country represented.
We note for each print the country in which the
costume could be found, and in some cases the name of the region or tribe.
The prints are based on drawings by the French
painter, decorator and illustrator Edouard Halouze. He was a frequent contributor to
the journal Gazette du Bon Ton, and exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs
in Paris in the 1920s.
