Background:
These botanical prints are from the New Series of Curtis's
Botanical Magazine, first issued in 1948 and published through 1983 by the
Royal Horticultural Society in London. Curtis is the oldest - and longest -
published of the British horticultural magazines. The botanical prints
featured here appeared in Curtis issues published from 1962 to 1982.
All of the botanical prints
shown on this page are based on illustrations by the Australian botanical artist Margaret
Stones (b. 1920). Between 1958 and 1983 she produced over 400 watercolor
drawings for publication in the magazine. In 1957 she was commissioned to do the
floral designs for a series of Australian postage stamps.
