Background:

These engravings portray a variety of Dog breeds including Sporting Dogs (Setters, Pointers, Spaniels, Retrievers, Hounds and Terriers) and Non-Sporting Dogs (Watch Dogs, Sheep and Cattle Dogs, Terriers and Toy).

The accompanying text discussed characteristics of each breed, and "treatment of the diseases to which they are subject".

The engravings are based on drawings by Mr. A. Baker.  The illustrations are based on actual dogs with the name of the owner and dog shown on the print.
