Background:
These delightful prints were illustrated by Willebeek Le Mair (1889-1966), one of
the most notable children's artists of the early 1900s. They accompanied nursery
rhymes written by R. Elkin (text) and J. Rontgen (music).
Born in Holland, Le Mair published her first
book at the age of 15 and illustrated fourteen books during her career. Her
beautiful watercolors show children in settings which capture the spirit of childhood.
The prints are from the First Edition of this
series dating to 1917 and were produced by the respected British publishing house of
Edmund Evans.
