Background:

The prints shown are this page are the actual embroidery patterns included in The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine published in the mid-1800s in London.  The Magazine was described as "an illustrated Journal combining Practical Information, Instruction and Amusement".

The patterns include the grid layout and placement for colored yarns to produce a variety of embroidered projects including clothing, cushions and mats.
