Background:
These botanical prints are from the French medical reference book Flore Medicale
(Medical Flowers) which portrayed a variety of flowers, trees and herbs which could
be used for treating illnesses. The accompanying page of text was referenced by the
physician in applying the plant for treatment. The illustrations are by Pierre
Turpin (1775-1840). Turpin, along with Pierre Redoute, are acknowledged as the most
accomplished of the French botanical artists in the early 1800s.
