Background:

These prints are from a folio of illustrations of French Cathedrals published in the early 1800s.  They feature the drawings of the architect R. Garland which were subsequently engraved by B. Winkles.  The folio focused on "a selection ... from the most celebrated of such Cathedrals" from the 133 dioceses which comprised the 18 ecclesiastical provinces of France.
