Background:

These prints are some of the most surrealistic - and enchanting - botanicals in our collection.  Les Fleurs Animees (The Animated Flowers) was the final work of Jean Grandville, a Parisian satirical cartoonist.  Each of the fifty plates in the series depicts a single flower in the guise of a woman ('femmes fleurs').
