Background:

These charming prints are from the First Edition of Under the Window, a series of pictures and rhymes by the English children's artist Kate Greenaway.  The engraving and printing is by Edmund Evans.

Greenaway, born in London in 1846, lived and practiced her craft in the suburb of Frognal until her death in 1901.  Along with Walter Crane and Randolph Caldecott, Greenaway helped to change the face of children's books in Victorian England.

We also feature on our site prints from three other Greenaway series The Language of Flowers, Book of Games and her Apple Pie Alphabet.
