Background:
These beautiful Heather prints are from Henry Andrews The Heathery, or a Monograph on
The Genus Erica. Andrews started the engravings for this series in 1794, and by
the time he was completed in 1830 had portrayed over 300 varieties. The accompanying
text, also authored by Andrews, contained "Latin and English descriptions,
dissections, etc. of all the known species of that extensive and distinguished tribe of
plants." Wilfred Blunt describes the Monograph as "his finest achievement,
noble in concept and impressive in execution". |
