Background:
The original New Yorker magazine covers featured here portray a variety
of Fishing themes, from the whimsical (August 29, 1942) to the pastoral
(April 28, 1951).
Some of the most prolific New Yorker
cover artists are shown including Rea Irvin, Abe Birnbaum, Perry Barlow, Garrett
Price, Charles Martin, Charles Saxon and Roger Duvoisin.
In addition to doing cover art, Rea Irvin served
as the "de facto" first art director for the magazine and is credited with the
design format which in many ways is still followed in the New Yorker. |
