Background:
Join us in celebrating the "spirit" of Halloween with a series
of original New Yorker covers spanning 40 years from 1950 to 1990.
This series shows why New Yorker covers
are so popular with readers and collectors - they include covers with a sense of Halloween
whimsy as well as views of the city and country during the Fall season.
A number of the covers are by Charles Addams
(1912-1988), the American cartoonist known for his darkly humorous and macabre
characters. In fact, the characters he created both in his cover art and
cartoons formed the basis for The Addams Family series which aired on the ABC
television network in the United States from 1964-1966. |
