Background:

The prints shown here accompanied a 1932 edition of Clement C. Moore's holiday poem The Night Before Christmas, originally published on December 23, 1823 in the Troy (New York) Sentinel with the title A Visit from St. Nicholas.

The prints are based on illustrations by the American artist Fern Bisel Peat (1893-1971).  Peat was an illustrator for children's books and magazines, and also did commercial work which was featured on toys and puzzles.
