Background:
These prints are from a "Scenic Guide Book" published by the Chicago, Milwaukee
and St. Paul Railroad and sold as a souvenir to passengers on their transcontinental
trains:
"Over the teacups
or around the evening fire, with your picture book, you can trace your journey and live it
all
over again in the companionship of those who were not with you on
the trip of trips."
As noted in the preface, the color prints are
all made from "photographs taken by special artists of the most striking objects of
interest which abound to a most remarkable extent along the C. M. & St. P Ry".
In addition to geographical points of interest the prints portray rolling stock
including steam locomotive, the electric locomotives used to operate through the Rocky,
Bitter Root and Cascade mountains, and the passenger cars of their signature train
"The Olympian".
Each print is provided with a copy of the
Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad route map.
