Background:
The Owl and Hawk prints on this page are based on drawings by the
American scientific illustrator John Ridgway. The series was
published by the United States government to introduce farmers to the variety of owls
and hawks they could come across and their impact on agricultural activity.
The prints portray the owls and hawks
in a natural setting, and identify the English and Latin names.
Ridgway also collaborated with his brother
Robert, an ornithologist, in completing illustrations for his brother's published works.
