Background:
These railroad ads are from the 1940s and 1950s and appeared in popular magazines
of the day. The earlier ads in the series had strong World War II overtones,
including the role of women in keeping the trains moving, while the later ads were
intended to get a nation coming out of war to start traveling again for pleasure.
Also included are some ads with a Holiday theme, obviously appearing in print during the
month of December.
