Background:
These engravings are from a guide to the palace of Versailles depicting statues found in
the gardens and fountains. The engravings are by Simon Thomassin (1653-1732) a Paris
engraver and member of the French Academy.
The work was commissioned by King Louis XIV, to
whom it is dedicated.
