Background:
These charming prints are part of a series of fanciful and real-life Children's Toys based
on illustrations by Walter Trier (1890-1951). Born in Prague, Trier emigrated to
Munich in 1909. Noted as both a cartoonist and book illustrator, Trier also did over
80 covers for The New Yorker and helped with Allied political propaganda drawings
after moving to England in the 1930s. The production of the color lithographs was
done by the well-known German publishing house of Ernst Wasmuth.
