Background:
These antique Tree Prints are from Francois Michaux's North American Sylva, regarded as
one of the most important pre-20th century works on this topic. Michaux
(1770-1855), a French botanist, compiled the
information on each variety of tree during his travels through North America.
Originally published in France in the early 1800s, the first American edition appeared in
the mid-1800s and included additional trees with descriptions by the English
botanist and zoologist Thomas Nuttall (1786-1859).
