Background:
These detailed engraved prints present views of North and South Wales based on drawings by
Henry Gastineau (1791-1876), a British topographer and landscape artist. Gastineau
also prepared the steel engraved plates from which the prints were produced. The
scenery presented includes "towns, castles, seats of nobility & gentry,
antiquities, etc)."
Some of the most interesting - and haunting -
prints from this series feature ruins of Welsh Castles and Cathedrals, reminiscent of the Ruined Abbeys of Great Britain prints
featured on our site. |
