These prints of Wetlands Birds are from Jacob Studer's Birds of North America,
one of the best known of the American books on birds of our continent from the second half
of the 1800s. The folio contains beautiful illustrations "drawn and colored
from life" by the German-born artist Theodore Jasper (1814-1897). As
described in the preface, the folio represents "upwards of seven hundred different
species and varieties of North American birds, including a popular account of their
habitat and characteristics".
