Background:
These prints are from an early 1900s folio of North American Wild Flowers illustrated by
Mary Walcott. Mrs. Walcott, wife of the American geologist Dr. Charles Walcott,
completed many of the watercolor sketches, on which the prints are based, over a 10 year
period of time while accompanying her husband on geological expeditions in the Canadian
Rockies. It is interesting to note that Dr. Walcott was also executive secretary of
the Smithsonian Institute, the publisher of the folio.
