Background:
These prints are from Deutsche Pomologie (German Pomology), the transactions of
the German Pomological Society. Accompanying each of the Fruit prints is a
narrative which describes the fruit and instructions on cultivation. The text was
authored by W. Lauche.
The print was made through a colored lithographic process called chromolithography.
The brilliance of the colors in this print is a good example of how Germany had perfected
the art of chromolithography in the second half of the 1800s.
