Background:
These prints of Monkeys, and related members of the Primate family, are from Lloyds
Natural History. A general natural history reference work published in England
in the late 1800s, Lloyd's featured detailed descriptions and illustrations of
Mammals, Butterflies and Moths, and Birds targeted towards the general public.
The Monkey prints are based on illustrations by
the Dutch artist Johannes Keulemans (1842-1912). While known primarily for his work
on illustrating birds, Keulemans was also commissioned to create portraits of mammals,
insects and shells.
