Background:

Visitors to our Web site are familiar with prints from Les Fleurs Animees (The Animated Flowers) by Jean Grandville, featured in the Botanical section.  In this series Grandville portrays women in the guise of flowers.  In Les Étoiles, a hard to find work of Grandville's from the mid-1800s, he takes similar creative liberty by portraying women in an astronomical setting - as stars.
